Welcome to SteveWiebe.com!

Steve WiebeHello. I’m Steve Wiebe and thanks for stopping by to check out my website.  For those of you that are fans of the documentary ( The King of Kong) and have contacted me in some fashion, I’ve truly appreciated all of your support.  The movie definitely has changed my life.  I’ve been blessed by God in so many ways before, during, and after the movie.  I have been on the Hollywood set of Four Christmases with Vince Vaughn and have played a drum solo at a My Chemical Romance concert.  I have met several amazing people and been to so many amazing places through this whole experience.  It’s hard to believe that the 80’s video game, Donkey Kong, started this adventure.  I even had the opportunity to go for the Donkey Kong world record live on G4 during E3 2009!  I fell a little short, but it was a surreal moment to say the least.

I’m currently still dedicated to teaching math and robotics at Finn Hill Junior High School in Kirkland, Washington.  I can honestly say that it’s a very rewarding profession.  I also coach junior high softball, basketball, and baseball.  When I’m not busy teaching or coaching, I enjoy vacationing, camping, and just hanging out with my friends and my family, Nicole, Jillian, and Derek.  Of course, I manage to play a few video games from time to time.  I still play a little golf and pick-up basketball when time allows, but my true passion is writing and recording music.  I’ve been playing drums since age 9, and I took piano lessons in elementary school.  I’ve always been drawn to music and the creation of music.  In 1986, I played drums in my high school band, Scoria, and we put out a CD and played our original music at the Newport High School talent show.  I continued playing drums in a band through college, where we performed at several fraternity parties and dances around the University of Washington campus.  The ultimate dream was to become a rock star and get signed to a major record label.  After college in the early 90’s, another band of mine, Linear North, made a road trip to LA in hopes of landing a deal.  I had an engineering degree at the time, but could not find work during the slow economic period, so I was doing graveyard stocking at Target.  Unfortunately, the record contract didn’t pan out, but I was lucky enough to marry Nicole, my high school sweatheart, and we started a beautiful family together.  I eventually went on to find work at Boeing….and….well you know the rest of the story if you’ve seen the movie.  Even though Donkey Kong has been very good to me, I’ve always held true to the dream of being a professional musician someday, not necessarily a professional gamer.  Sure, I plan on keeping active in the gaming community, but during this time, I’ve also been finishing up a CD that has seen 10 years in the making.  This experience has paralleled my Donkey Kong journey in so many aspects that I could easily write a novel chronicling this journey as well, but I’ll spare you the details for now.

Anyway, thanks again for visiting and best wishes to you and yours and good luck in all of your future endeavors.  Please come back soon to check for updates.

God Bless.
